Chapter 9: Fists of the Conqueror

The Minotaur’s axe came down like a falling guillotine.

Kaito’s Observation Haki screamed—

MOVE.

He twisted sideways, the blade carving a crater into the stone where he had stood half a second ago. The shockwave alone sent him skidding back, his boots grinding against the dungeon floor.

“Damn,” Kaito breathed, his pulse hammering in his throat.

The Minotaur towered over him—three meters of corded muscle, its crimson eyes burning with primal fury. Its breath came in hot, ragged snorts, steam curling from its nostrils. The great axe in its hands was a monstrous thing, the edge stained with the dried blood of countless adventurers.

Kaito grinned.

“Now this is a fight.”

—

The Minotaur charged, its hooves cracking stone.

Kaito dove, rolling beneath a horizontal slash that would have bisected him. He came up swinging—his fist slammed into the beast’s ribs with enough force to shatter a normal monster’s bones.

The Minotaur grunted.

That was it.

No stagger. No flinch.

Just a slow, furious turn of its head.

“Shit.”

The backhand came faster than he expected.

CRACK.

Kaito’s vision whited out as the blow sent him flying, his body crashing through a cluster of glowing crystals. Pain exploded through his ribs—something was broken.

He spat blood, forcing himself up.

“Alright. No more playing nice.”

—

Kaito’s Observation Haki flared to life, the world sharpening around him.

The Minotaur’s next axe swing was telegraphed—a brutal overhead chop.

Kaito sidestepped, the blade missing him by inches. He countered, driving his fist into the Minotaur’s wrist—

SNAP.

The beast roared, its grip faltering. The axe clattered to the ground.

Kaito didn’t let up.

He leaped, driving his knee into the Minotaur’s jaw. The impact rattled his bones, but the beast barely flinched.

A fist the size of a boulder smashed into his gut.

“Guh—!”

Air fled his lungs. He folded around the blow, his feet leaving the ground—

Then a second punch sent him plowing through the dungeon wall.

Kaito coughed, crimson splattering the stone beneath him.

His ribs were cracked. His vision swam.

And yet—

He laughed.

A raw, exhilarated sound.

“This… this is what I wanted.”

A fight where death hung by a thread.

Where every second was life or oblivion.

The Minotaur stalked toward him, its fists clenched.

Kaito wiped his mouth, standing on trembling legs.

“Come on then.”

The Minotaur swung.

Kaito weaved.

His Haki painted the path of each blow before it came—

A right hook. Duck.

A left uppercut. Lean back.

A crushing stomp. Roll away.

He was faster.

But the Minotaur was stronger.

One graze was all it took.

A glancing blow to his shoulder—

SNAP.

His collarbone shattered.

Kaito gritted his teeth, forcing his body to move.

He countered, his fist burying into the Minotaur’s gut.

The beast grunted, but its retaliatory headbutt sent Kaito sprawling.

—

Kaito’s vision blurred.

His arms shook.

The Minotaur lowered its head, its massive horns gleaming like spears.

It charged.

Kaito saw it coming.

But his body—

His body wouldn’t move fast enough.

The horn pierced his stomach.

AGONY.

White-hot. Blinding.

Blood gushed from the wound, his legs giving out.

The Minotaur lifted him, impaled like a trophy.

Kaito’s vision darkened at the edges.

“So… this is it?”

Then—

A voice.

Not his own.

Deeper.

Older.

“You will not die here.”

Something surged within him.

A pressure.

A pulse.

Black flames wreathed his fist—Armament Haki.

“RAAAAAGH!”

Kaito’s armored fist smashed into the Minotaur’s snout.

The beast staggered, dropping him.

Kaito landed on his feet, his wound still bleeding, his body broken—

But his will unshaken.

The Minotaur roared, swinging wildly.

Kaito moved.

Not with Observation.

Not with speed.

But with something else.

“Fall.”

His fist connected.

And the world—

Exploded.

—

A shockwave ripped through the dungeon.

The Minotaur’s eyes widened.

Then—

CRACK.

Its skull caved in.

Its knees buckled.

Its massive body collapsed, shaking the ground.

Dead.

Silence.

Then—

Kaito collapsed, his vision fading.

The last thing he saw was Bell’s terrified face covered with blood rushing toward him. And there is a beautiful girl beside him.

“Kaito!”

Darkness.
