Chapter 16: The Hunt on Zevil Island

Ship port onto Zevil Island, its engines humming softly as the remaining 24 examinees prepared to disembark. The island was a sprawling, untamed wilderness, its dense forests and jagged cliffs teeming with danger. The fourth phase of the Hunter Exam had begun, and the stakes were higher than ever.

Lippo, the examiner from the third phase, stood before the group, his expression stern. “Welcome to Zevil Island,” he said, his voice carrying the weight of authority. “Your task is simple: each of you has been assigned a target. You must collect your target’s badge and your own badge to earn six points. In order to pass, you have to have total 6 points. Additionally, you can earn one point for every other badge you collect. The phase will last one week, and the game cannot end early. Good luck.”

Khara, another examiner, provided additional details during the boat ride to the island. “The island is filled with dangerous creatures and treacherous terrain. Trust no one—not even your friends. This is a test of strategy, survival, and strength.”

As the examinees stepped onto the island, they were given their target badges. Jack’s badge bore the number #303.

But he had no idea who his target was. His target tag number is #80. He also didn’t know who might be targeting him. The game had begun, and the rules were clear: trust no one.

Zevil Island was a place of stark contrasts. The northern region was dominated by dense forests, their towering trees casting long shadows over the forest floor. The southern region was a rocky wasteland, its jagged cliffs and deep ravines offering little shelter.

The eastern coast was lined with sandy beaches, while the western region was a swampy marshland, its murky waters teeming with dangerous creatures.

Jack chose to head toward the northern forest, its dense foliage providing ample cover. He moved cautiously, his senses on high alert. The island was alive with the sounds of rustling leaves, distant animal calls, and the occasional screech of a predator. He knew that danger could come from any direction—be it the island’s wildlife or his fellow examinees.

After finding a secluded spot deep within the forest, Jack decided it was time to use the 10,000 EXP he had saved. He opened his system interface and allocated the points, his level skyrocketing from 25 to 43. The surge of power was immediate, his body feeling stronger and more resilient than ever.

Enhancers like Isaac Netero can boost their strength even further using Nen, but as a Specialist, Host enhancement is 60% lower compared to Enhancer. And consumption of aura for enhancing strength is also 60% higher than Enhancer.

As Jack leveled up, he unlocked three new Nen skills: En, Shu, and Ko. These skills would give him a significant advantage in the battles to come.

– Effect: Extends Jack’s aura outward, creating a spherical field of perception. Within this field, Jack can detect the presence, movement, and even the emotions of others. At Level 1, the radius is 10 meters.

Shu (Level 1 – Active Skill):

– Effect: Infuses an object with aura, enhancing its durability and effectiveness. This skill is particularly useful for weapons or tools. At Level 1, the enhancement lasts for 10 minutes.

– Cost: 420 AP per minute. Cost will also change based on the size of the item you want to cover.

Ko (Level 1 – Active Skill):

– Effect: Concentrates all of Jack’s aura into a single point, drastically increasing its power. This skill is ideal for delivering devastating attacks but leaves Host vulnerable to counterattacks. At Level 1, the power increase is 300%.

– Cost: 500 AP per use.

When he concentrated his aura into his fist, the sheer power was overwhelming, the ground cracking beneath his feet.

With his new skills and enhanced strength, Jack set out to find his target. He activated En, his aura extending outward in a 10-meter radius. The forest came alive in his mind, every rustle of leaves and every footstep magnified. He moved silently, his movements precise and deliberate.

As he ventured deeper into the forest, he encountered his first challenger: a fellow examinee with a badge number he didn’t recognize. The man lunged at Jack, his movements swift but predictable. Jack countered with a single punch, his Strength attribute making the attack devastating. The man was sent flying, his badge falling to the ground.

Jack picked up the badge, his expression calm. “One down,” he muttered. “Two to go.”
