One Piece Slot Master - Chapter 10
Chapter 10: Dragon’s Roar and Farewell
The battle for Warship Island raged under the harsh glare of the midday sun, the sands of the beach churned and stained. Jack, fighting with a ferocity born of desperation and newfound power, sent another ‘Tempest Kick’—a shimmering blade of air conjured by Eric’s Devil Fruit knowledge, Sanji’s kicking form, and Usopp’s aiming talent—slicing towards a cluster of advancing Marines, scattering them like ninepins. His active templates (Sanji, Usopp, Eric) hummed in his System, layering instincts and abilities over his own rapidly improving Base Level 35 physique.
Luffy was a rubbery comet, bouncing between Marine platoons, his “Gomu Gomu no Bazooka!” sending entire squads flying. Zoro, a whirlwind of green and steel, carved paths through the enemy ranks, his three swords deflecting bullets and cleaving through enemy blades with grim efficiency. Sanji, a dapper cyclone of powerful kicks, seemed to be everywhere at once, protecting Nami as she used her staff with surprising effectiveness to trip and disorient foes, and shielding Usopp, who, despite his trembling knees, was accurately launching smoke pellets and caltrops from his slingshot, disrupting Marine formations.
Commodore Nelson, red-faced and sputtering from the deck of his partially beached lead ship, bellowed orders, his arrogance beginning to fray. Eric the Whirlwind, his flamboyant attire now dusty and torn, was locked in a frustrating dance with Zoro, his air sickles clashing against tempered steel, his annoyance growing with every attack Jack launched that mimicked his own Devil Fruit power.
Just as Nelson ordered a pincer movement, aiming to trap the Straw Hats and push towards the direction of Ryuuji’s cave, a sound rolled across the island that silenced all conflict for a heartbeat. It began as a low rumble, vibrating through the very rock beneath their feet, then swelled into a colossal, world-shaking ROAR. It was a sound of unimaginable antiquity, of mountains crumbling and skies tearing, filled with an ancient sorrow and an indomitable will.
Every Marine froze, faces pale with primal fear. Even the Straw Hats paused, expressions of awe on their faces.
Ryuuji.
From the dark maw of his hidden cavern, the Millennium Dragon had unleashed his voice. It wasn’t a destructive blast of fire or force – he was too weak for that now – but the sheer sonic power, the inherent majesty of his cry, was enough. It buffeted the Marines like a physical force, shattering their morale. Several soldiers dropped their weapons and cowered. The rigging on Nelson’s ships hummed like tortured harp strings.
“NOW!” Luffy bellowed, seizing the moment of disarray. He launched himself like a cannonball towards Nelson’s ship.
The Straw Hats surged forward. Zoro, with a mighty roar of his own, unleashed a “Santoryu: Oni Giri!” that sent Eric stumbling back, finally creating an opening. Sanji delivered a devastating series of kicks to a Marine captain who had been trying to rally his men. Jack, heart pounding with adrenaline, focused his Tempest Kicks, sending precise air blades to cut ropes holding boarding planks, disarming key Marine riflemen, and providing cover for his crewmates.
Luffy crashed onto Nelson’s deck, and the sounds of a very one-sided pummeling began. Eric, seeing his employer about to be incapacitated and realizing the fight was hopelessly lost against these monstrous pirates and a roaring dragon, made a swift, pragmatic decision. With a final, frustrated volley of air sickles to cover his escape, he leaped into the sea and began swimming with surprising speed towards one of the smaller, less damaged Marine vessels further offshore.
With their Commodore “indisposed” and their hired gun fleeing, the remaining Marines lost all cohesion. A panicked, disorganized retreat began, soldiers scrambling back to their longboats, desperate to escape the island of “monsters and dragons.”
As the last Marine ship limped away over the horizon, a cheer went up from the Straw Hats. Exhausted, bruised, but victorious, they regrouped on the beach. Apis rushed out from her hiding place with Bokuden, tears of relief streaming down her face.
“You did it! You saved Ryuuji-sama!”
Jack leaned heavily against a palm tree, his breath coming in ragged gasps, every muscle aching. The Sanji, Usopp, and Eric templates had been invaluable, but the sustained combat had drained him.
It was Nami who first noticed the change. “Look! The sea!”
They all turned. The tide, which had been unusually low, was now receding at an astonishing rate. The water around Warship Island was pulling back, like a curtain being drawn, revealing vast, glistening expanses of dark rock, ancient, weathered pathways, and the crumbling outlines of cyclopean structures that had clearly been submerged for centuries. The very shape of the island seemed to transform as the sea retreated further and further, exposing a massive, ring-like formation of land and stone around the central peak.
“It’s… it’s happening,” Apis whispered, her eyes wide with awe. “Just like you said, Jack!”
The Dragon’s Nest. Revealed in all its somber, ancient glory.
With a groan that seemed to echo the receding waters, Ryuuji emerged from his cavern. He was impossibly weary, his movements slow and ponderous, yet there was a profound peace in his golden eyes as he gazed upon the unveiled sanctuary. Apis ran to his side, gently touching his massive snout.
The journey from the cave to the heart of the revealed Nest was a slow, solemn procession. Ryuuji, with what seemed like his last reserves of strength, managed a lumbering walk, occasionally steadying himself with a wingtip. The Straw Hats and Jack walked with him, a silent honor guard. The air was still, the only sounds their footsteps on the damp, ancient stones and Ryuuji’s labored breathing.
He finally reached the center of the largest exposed structure, a vast, circular amphitheater of stone that did indeed resemble a colossal nest. He settled into its heart with a deep, shuddering sigh, a sound of final, utter release.
His great head turned, his ancient eyes finding Apis, then Jack, then each of the Straw Hats in turn. A wave of profound gratitude, of peace, and of immense, soul-deep weariness washed over Jack from Ryuuji’s mind.
…Thank you… Little Whisperer… Jack, the Small One with the Great Heart… Straw Hat Pirates… my long watch… is over…
His breathing grew shallower, slower. Apis sobbed quietly, clinging to his snout.
And then, with one final, gentle exhalation, Ryuuji, the last known Millennium Dragon, was still.
The ancient life force that had burned for over a thousand years peacefully faded, leaving behind an echoing silence in the heart of the Dragon’s Nest.
The moment Ryuuji’s spirit departed, Jack felt a strange, hollowing sensation within his System. He quickly checked his template storage. The majestic icon of [Ancient Sky Dragon – Ryuuji] was flickering, its vibrant green fading to a dull, inert grey.
[ERROR: Source of ‘Ancient Sky Dragon – Ryuuji’ Template has expired. Template integrity critically compromised.]
A second notification followed immediately.
[Legendary Template ‘Ancient Sky Dragon – Ryuuji’ is now inert and permanently unusable. Stored data corrupted beyond recovery.]
Jack’s heart sank. The 10x EXP boost, the promise of extended life, the potential for draconic powers – all gone. A profound sense of loss, sharper than he’d expected, pierced through him.
Then, a new, lengthy System notification began to scroll across his vision.
[SYSTEM UPDATE: Template Permanence Protocol & Synchronization.]
[Standard Templates derived from living biological sources remain viable only as long as the original source entity maintains vital life signs. Upon cessation of the source’s life functions, the corresponding Template will typically degrade and become inert, unless specific conditions are met.]
[Condition for Permanence: 100% ‘Synchronization & Integration’ with the acquired Template. This is achieved through prolonged and intensive active use of a template, dedicated training of its specific inherent abilities and skills, and a deep, intuitive understanding of the template’s core essence and limitations. The process requires substantial time and focused effort for each individual template.]
[Once 100% Synchronization is achieved, the Template becomes a permanent, intrinsic part of the User’s System, fully integrated with the User’s own life force and independent of the original source’s continued existence or status. Such integrated templates represent true mastery and assimilation of the copied powers.]
[Analysis: ‘Ancient Sky Dragon – Ryuuji’ Template Synchronization at time of source expiry: 0.7%. Factors: Primarily passive attunement, minimal active ability usage due to weakened state of source and User’s developmental stage. Synchronization level insufficient for permanence. Template lost.]
Jack absorbed the information with a grim understanding. He couldn’t just collect templates like trading cards, especially not from beings with finite lifespans, unless he truly dedicated himself to mastering their essence. It added a new, challenging layer to his power progression. He had to choose wisely which templates to truly invest his time and effort in.
As if in response to Ryuuji’s passing, a soft, ethereal glow began to emanate from the ancient stones of the Nest. Faint, translucent forms, unmistakably draconic, shimmered into existence around Ryuuji’s still body – dozens of them, spirits of Millennium Dragons long past, their silent, majestic presence filling the Nest. They seemed to welcome Ryuuji, their forms gently nudging his, a silent, loving reunion. It was an incredibly beautiful, mystical sight, a gathering of ancient souls.
Apis, tears streaming down her face, finally let go of Ryuuji’s snout and stepped back, watching the spirits with a sense of awe and sorrowful peace. “They came for him,” she whispered. “He’s not alone anymore.” She turned to the Straw Hats and Jack, a brave, watery smile on her face. “Thank you. Thank you all. I… I think I’ll stay here. This is my home, and this is Ryuuji-sama’s. I’ll be the keeper of the Dragon’s Nest, and honor their memory.”
The Straw Hats, even Luffy, were subdued, touched by the solemnity and beauty of the moment. They offered Apis their condolences and their respect for her decision. Jack felt a pang of sadness for the lost dragon and the incredible template, but also a deep gratitude for the brief time he’d known Ryuuji and the monumental gift of understanding the System more deeply.
With the Marines gone, Ryuuji at peace, and Apis finding her purpose, there was nothing left for the Straw Hats on Warship Island. The tide was slowly beginning to creep back in, the waters sighing as they started to reclaim the ancient stones.
Bokuden and Apis walked them back to the Going Merry, which had been hidden in a secluded cove. Farewells were exchanged, promises made to visit if they ever passed by again (a promise Luffy made with utmost seriousness).
Jack stood on the deck of the Going Merry, the newest official member of the crew, watching as Warship Island – the Dragon’s Nest – grew smaller in the distance. He was no longer a lost fanboy, a castaway. He was a Straw Hat Pirate. He had a captain, a crew, a ship beneath his feet. In his System’s storage lay a potent arsenal of templates – Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Sanji, Usopp, Eric, Apis, and the ever-useful Reef Dweller – each a path to new strengths, new abilities, and now, a new challenge: to achieve that 100% synchronization and make their powers truly his own.
The Grand Line, with all its impossible adventures and terrifying dangers, awaited.
He grinned, a fresh surge of anticipation bubbling within him. He glanced at his crewmates – Luffy already perched on his favorite spot on the figurehead, Zoro napping against the mast, Nami at the rudder navigating, Usopp tinkering with something, Sanji already planning their next meal.
This was his life now. And it was going to be one hell of a ride.
