One Piece Slot Master - Chapter 11
Chapter 11: Sailing (and New Crew Dynamics)
The days following their departure from Warship Island melted into a rhythm dictated by the sea, the wind, and the unique cadence of life aboard the Going Merry. For Jack, it was a period of profound adjustment and exhilarating novelty. The cramped but cozy confines of the ship, the constant gentle sway beneath his feet, the endless expanse of blue sky and ocean – it was a world away from the solitary struggle on his island, and an even further cry from the mundane reality he’d left behind.
He found his sea legs quickly enough, driven by a desire to be useful, to pull his weight as the newest member of Monkey D. Luffy’s burgeoning pirate crew. He watched his new crewmates with a perpetual sense of quiet awe, the larger-than-life characters from his favorite story now his daily companions. Luffy’s infectious laughter and boundless, often reckless, energy; Zoro’s astounding ability to nap anywhere, anytime, punctuated by bouts of ridiculously intense training; Nami’s sharp intellect as she navigated them through ever-changing currents and weather, her exasperation with Luffy a constant counterpoint to her underlying affection for her crew; Usopp’s wild tales and surprisingly deft hands as he tinkered with gadgets or patched sails; and Sanji, a whirlwind of culinary artistry in the tiny galley, his chivalry towards Nami unwavering. Jack was living a dream, and he was determined to make the most of it.
His Base Level was still 35, a respectable foundation, but the encounter with Nelson’s forces, and particularly Eric, had shown him the vast gulf in actual combat experience and specialized abilities. The System’s revelation about needing 100% synchronization to make templates permanent had also reshaped his training philosophy. Simply raising his Base Level felt too slow, too generic. He needed to unlock the unique, game-changing potentials hidden within the incredible templates he’d acquired.
His gaze kept returning to Sanji’s template information: [Modified Human Physique (Dormant – Requires 0/10,000 ‘Genetic Realignment’ EXP to awaken initial stage)]. An exoskeleton. Accelerated healing. The Vinsmoke children, despite their emotional stunting (a side effect Jack fervently hoped to avoid by awakening the power through his System rather than Germa science), were physically formidable. This, Jack decided, was a far more tantalizing immediate goal than just incrementally increasing his Base Level. It promised a specific, powerful defensive and regenerative advantage.
With this new focus, he reconfigured his active template slots specifically for an intensive training regimen:
Slot 1: [Monkey D. Luffy (Future Pirate King Candidate – Early Stage)]. The primary draw was its passive [10x EXP boost to Physique, Haki Attribute, or Devil Fruit Ability training]. The Gomu Gomu no Mi’s elasticity was a bonus he’d explore later.
Slot 2: [Roronoa Zoro (Future World’s Strongest Swordsman – Early Stage)]. Its [6x EXP boost to Physique, Haki Attribute, or Sword Skill training] was the main attraction here for his current goal.
Slot 3: [Sanji (Vinsmoke Prince – Latent Abilities)]. This was the target for his EXP investment, and practicing Black Leg Style basics would only help.
As he activated this combination, a new System notification surprised him:
[Synergistic Resonance Detected: Multiple High-Growth Potential Combat Templates Active (Luffy, Zoro, Sanji).]
[Due to the combined innate talents for extreme physical development and adaptation present in these three templates, a temporary synergistic multiplier is now in effect: All raw EXP gained from direct physical conditioning and combat practice will receive an additional compounded 6x boost, resulting in a total EXP multiplier of 22x (10x Luffy + 6x Zoro + 6x Sanji Bonus = 22x). This bonus is contingent on all three templates remaining active.]
Jack blinked. Twenty-two times. The System was practically encouraging this specific loadout for intensive physical development. His path was clear.
His new regimen began almost immediately, much to the amusement and occasional consternation of the crew. The deck of the Going Merry became his personal training ground. Mornings started with him performing hundreds of push-ups, his form growing crisper with each set, the muscles in his arms and chest burning. Then came sit-ups, squats, lunges, each exercise pushed to the point of exhaustion, then further. He practiced his punches and kicks against the main mast, the rhythmic thudding a new part of the ship’s daily soundtrack (Zoro, if napping nearby, would sometimes emit a low growl, forcing Jack to find a less disruptive target).
The most astonishing discovery was his stamina. With the combined vitality and endurance offered by the Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji templates – even scaled to his current Base Level 35 – he felt almost inexhaustible. The burning fatigue that would normally have crippled him after an hour of such intense work was muted, a distant throb rather than an incapacitating agony. He could train for hours, rest briefly, and then dive back in.
The System’s EXP counter became his new obsession. [100 Repetitions of ‘Standard Push-Up’ (Trained) = 1 Raw EXP]. The same applied to his sit-ups, squats, punches, and kicks.
Throughout the day, between helping Nami hoist a sail, swabbing the deck under Sanji’s watchful eye, or listening to Usopp’s latest (highly improbable) story, he would seize every spare moment to grind out another hundred reps.
By the end of his first full day of this new regimen at sea, he had managed to accumulate a hard-earned 85 Raw EXP. The moment he completed his final set of kicks as the sun dipped below the horizon, the System flashed:
[+85 Raw EXP Gained from Physical Conditioning!]
[Applying 22x Synergistic EXP Multiplier: Total 1870 EXP Acquired!]
[1870 EXP allocated to ‘Modified Human Physique’ (Sanji Template). Current Progress: 1870/10,000 EXP.]
Jack grinned, sweat dripping from his brow, every muscle in his body singing with a dull, satisfying ache. Nearly two thousand points in a single day. At this rate, awakening Sanji’s Vinsmoke physique was a tangible, achievable goal, perhaps in less than a week of dedicated effort.
It wasn’t all relentless grinding, however. Curiosity often got the better of him, leading to some amusing experiments with his stored templates. One afternoon, Sanji was meticulously preparing a complex sauce, his movements a blur of practiced grace. Jack, wondering if he could replicate even a fraction of that skill, found a quiet moment to temporarily swap out his active [Roronoa Zoro Template] for his stored [Sanji (Vinsmoke Prince)] template, essentially doubling down on Sanji’s influence, though he quickly realized the primary one was sufficient. With Sanji’s template active in his main training loadout, he volunteered to prepare a simple side dish. The crew watched with interest. The result, a pan-fried fish with herbs, was… surprisingly good. The fish was perfectly cooked, the herbs well-balanced.
“Oi, Jack, not bad at all!” Luffy exclaimed, already reaching for a piece.
Sanji, tasting it with a critical expression, nodded slowly. “The technique is sound. Seasoning is adequate. But…” he paused, taking another bite, “it lacks… finesse. Heart. You cooked it with your head, not your soul, Jack-kun.”
Jack understood. The template gave him the skill, the knowledge, but not the years of passion and dedication that made Sanji a true culinary artist.
Another time, he saw Usopp perched on the railing, practicing his aim by shooting pebbles at distant waves with his slingshot, hitting his mark with uncanny precision. Intrigued, Jack temporarily swapped his active Sanji template for his stored [Usopp (Master Sniper Potential) Template]. He picked up a few smooth stones.
“Hey, Usopp, mind if I try?”
Usopp grinned. “Sure, Jack! Let’s see what you got!” He pointed to a piece of driftwood bobbing about fifty yards out.
Jack took aim, channeling Usopp’s innate talent for marksmanship. He threw. The pebble arced through the air and, to his surprise, plinked right off the driftwood.
“Whoa! Nice shot, Jack!” Luffy cheered.
Usopp, however, then handed him one of his special pellets.
“Alright, now try this ‘Pepper Stinger Pellet’ on that bigger wave coming up. You gotta lead it just right so it bursts in the foam.”
Jack looked at the pellet, then at the wave, then back at the pellet. He had no idea how to account for its specific weight, its aerodynamics, or its “stinging” properties. His earlier shot had been pure aiming talent; this required specialized knowledge he didn’t possess. He made a clumsy attempt, and the pellet fell short, sinking without a pop.
Usopp chuckled. “See? It ain’t just about hitting things, Jack! It’s about knowing your ammo, feeling the wind, becoming one with the projectile! That, my friend, is the heart of a true sniper!”
Jack swapped his templates back to his Luffy/Zoro/Sanji training loadout, a new appreciation for Usopp’s unique brand of genius dawning on him.
The crew’s reactions to his “Slot Slot Fruit” ability remained a source of constant amusement. Nami, after her initial wariness, was now openly intrigued by its potential utility, often musing aloud. “Jack, if you were to, hypothetically, touch someone with an incredible talent for, say, appraising jewels, or finding gold veins… how accurately could you replicate that?” Her eyes would invariably turn into Berry signs during these speculations. When he explained it was more about inherent skills and abilities rather than luck or specific knowledge sets unless they were deeply ingrained talents, she’d look momentarily disappointed but then immediately pivot to another angle. “What about copying a Fishman’s ability to talk to fish? Think of the navigational advantages! Or predicting storms directly from sea creatures!”
Zoro remained largely indifferent, often sleeping soundly through Jack’s noisy training sessions. However, if Jack, with the Zoro template active, picked up a stray piece of wood and attempted a sword stance or a practice swing, the swordsman would sometimes crack an eye open. “Your footing is wrong,” he might grunt, or “You’re holding it like a club. Terrible.” Then he’d promptly go back to sleep, leaving Jack both frustrated and strangely motivated.
Luffy and Usopp, on the other hand, were his biggest fans, their fascination with his power boundless. Luffy was constantly pestering him: “Jack! Jack! Copy that flying fish! Let’s see you swim super fast and then fly out of the water!” or “What if you copy me, and I copy you copying me? Would we make a super-stretchy… uh… something?!” Usopp, meanwhile, saw Jack as a walking arsenal of potential combination attacks. “Okay, okay, listen! What if you copy Zoro’s strength, Sanji’s kicks, and Luffy’s rubberiness, and then you do a Gomu Gomu no Spinning Demon Leg Bazooka?! We could call it the ‘Jack-in-the-Box Annihilator!'” Jack would usually just laugh and play along, occasionally demonstrating a minor stretch or a basic kick, which was always met with whoops of approval from the duo.
Days turned into a week, then more. The Going Merry, guided by Nami’s skillful hand, sailed steadily eastward, towards the distant, looming silhouette of the Red Line. The vast, empty ocean stretched in every direction, the sunrises and sunsets painting the sky in breathtaking colors. Jack felt a profound sense of peace, a feeling of belonging he hadn’t experienced since he was unceremoniously dumped into this vibrant, dangerous world. He was part of something now, part of a crew, part of an adventure.
He checked his progress on Sanji’s Modified Physique: [Current Progress: 9350/10,000 EXP]. He was close. So incredibly close. Another day, maybe two, of this relentless grind, and he would unlock it. The thought sent a thrill of anticipation through him.
The Red Line was still a distant promise, Reverse Mountain an unseen challenge, but Jack faced the horizon with a steady heart. He was a Straw Hat Pirate, and his journey was just beginning to get truly interesting.
