One Piece Slot Master - Chapter 9
Chapter 9: Battle for Warship Island
The day after Jack’s official induction into the chaos that was the Straw Hat Pirates crew dawned heavy and humid, the sky a bruised purple in the pre-dawn light. A tense quiet had fallen over Bokuden’s house and the small village. Sleep had been fitful for most, the anticipation of imminent conflict a knot in their stomachs. Nami, using her innate weather sense, confirmed that the unusual tidal conditions Jack had spoken of were indeed beginning to manifest; the sea level around the island was already subtly, yet perceptibly, lower than usual. Ryuuji, in his distant cavern, remained a silent, ancient presence, his weariness a palpable weight in Jack’s mind even without the dragon template active.
Jack had spent a good portion of the night mentally reviewing his template arsenal, strategizing for the fight he knew was coming. The [Ancient Sky Dragon – Ryuuji] template, with its phenomenal 10x EXP boost, was invaluable for training, and the promise of an extended lifespan was a mind-bending perk. But in its current ‘Weakened State,’ its direct combat applications were limited, mostly passive boosts to vitality that would be overshadowed by more specialized fighting templates. He made the pragmatic decision to move it to storage for now. [Monkey D. Luffy]’s template followed. The Gomu Gomu no Mi was undeniably powerful, but Jack had zero experience fighting as a rubber man; flailing limbs would likely be more a liability than an asset. He needed control and precision.
His chosen loadout felt more balanced for his current capabilities.
Slot 1: [Sanji (Vinsmoke Prince) Template]. The Black Leg Style basics, even at a novice level for Jack, combined with his own Base Level 35 strength, offered potent close-quarters combat options. The dormant Modified Physique was a tantalizing long-term project.
Slot 2: [Usopp (Master Sniper Potential) Template]. While Jack didn’t have a slingshot, Usopp’s innate talent for pinpoint accuracy and his inventive, if sometimes cowardly, tactical mind could provide an edge in unpredictable ways.
Slot 3: [Nami (Genius Navigator) Template]. Her bo staff skills were basic, but her incredible weather intuition and sharp, analytical mind might offer a subtle boost to his battlefield awareness and agility.
He felt ready, or as ready as one could be to face a Marine fleet. His Base Level 35 physique was a solid foundation, making him significantly stronger and faster than an average person, or even an average Marine. The templates layered talent and instinct on top of that raw power.
The Straw Hats were in their own states of preparation. Luffy vibrated with barely contained energy, eager for a fight. Zoro sat in quiet meditation, his three swords laid across his lap, their polished surfaces gleaming faintly. Usopp was a hive of activity, meticulously checking his slingshot pellets, muttering about new “Hissatsu” moves, his nervousness betrayed by his constant fidgeting. Sanji, after ensuring Apis and Bokuden had a secure hiding place stocked with food and water, was doing a series of limbering kicks, his expression cool and focused. Nami, armed with her staff and a look of grim determination, was coordinating with Usopp on lookout points, occasionally glancing at the sea with a worried frown.
It was Usopp’s panicked cry that finally shattered the tense anticipation. “Ships! Marine ships on the horizon! Three… no, four of them! And they’re heading straight for us!”
Commodore Nelson, it seemed, had arrived.
The sight of the Marine warships, their cannons glinting ominously as they dropped anchor a short distance from the shore, was imposing. Longboats were already being lowered, packed with uniformed soldiers. At the prow of the lead ship stood a portly man in a decorated Marine commodore’s uniform, a sneer of arrogant confidence etched on his face. Nelson.
“People of this insignificant island!” Nelson’s voice boomed across the water, amplified by a den den mushi. “I am Commodore Nelson of the esteemed Marine Branch 8! We have come for the Millennium Dragon fabled to reside here! Surrender it to us peacefully, and you may be spared!”
Luffy, naturally, didn’t wait for a diplomatic response. “NO WAY, YOU JERK! THAT OLD DRAGON IS OUR FRIEND! IF YOU WANT HIM, YOU’LL HAVE TO GO THROUGH US!” he roared back, his voice surprisingly carrying across the distance.
With that, he shot off towards the beach like a cannonball, Zoro and Sanji flanking him almost instantly.
“Here we go,” Nami sighed, gripping her staff. “Usopp, with me! Jack, try to cover our flank and make sure no one gets to Apis and her grandpa!”
“Got it!” Jack confirmed, his heart hammering. This was it.
The initial clash was a flurry of motion. Luffy, a rubbery whirlwind, slammed into the first wave of disembarking Marines, sending them flying like bowling pins. Zoro was a green-clad demon, his swords a blur as he engaged a squad of Marine swordsmen, the clang of steel echoing across the beach. Sanji’s kicks were precise and devastating, each impact punctuated by a sharp crack as Marines were launched into the air or slammed into the sand.
Jack, with his chosen templates active, moved to intercept a group of Marines trying to circle around towards the village. His Base Level 35 strength was immediately apparent. His punches, though lacking refined technique, landed with solid, bruising force, sending soldiers stumbling back. He then transitioned into Sanji’s Black Leg Style, the basic movements flowing with surprising instinct. A swift Collier kick to a Marine’s chin, followed by an Épaule to another’s shoulder, then a spinning Flanchet that cleared a small space around him. He wasn’t as graceful or powerful as Sanji, his movements still carrying a hint of his own untrained awkwardness, but the raw power output from his Base Level, combined with the template’s ingrained skill, was more than enough for these rank-and-file soldiers.
Nami’s template provided a subtle edge to his awareness; he found himself anticipating a clumsy swing from a Marine rifle butt, dodging with an agility that surprised even himself. Usopp’s template sharpened his aim, not with projectiles, but in finding openings, targeting vulnerabilities in the Marines’ stances. He was fighting, truly fighting, alongside the Straw Hat Pirates, and to his own astonishment, he was holding his own.
The battle raged, a chaotic symphony of shouts, clashing steel, and Luffy’s distinctive “Gomu Gomu no!” cries. But just as the Straw Hats seemed to be gaining the upper hand against the initial wave, a new figure leaped from the deck of Nelson’s flagship onto the beach with surprising agility. He was a wiry man with cruel eyes and a sneering grin, dressed in flamboyant clothing, a pair of wicked-looking sickles strapped to his back, though he didn’t immediately draw them.
“Commodore Nelson, your soldiers are remarkably incompetent,” the newcomer drawled, his voice carrying a sharp, cutting edge. “Perhaps you require the services of Eric the Whirlwind to expedite this little pest removal.”
Eric. The mercenary with the Kama Kama no Mi. Jack’s internal alarm bells went off. This guy was a legitimate threat, especially with his ranged air-slashing attacks.
True to form, Eric didn’t wait. With a flick of his wrists, though he held no visible weapons, two shimmering blades of compressed air shot from his hands, slicing through the air with a vicious shriiiiek. One narrowly missed Zoro, who cursed and leaped back; the other forced Sanji to abort a kick and dodge.
“Vacuum sickles!” Nami yelled a warning. “Be careful, those things are sharp!”
Eric cackled, sending another volley of air blades towards Luffy, who simply stretched out of the way. “My Kama Kama no Mi allows me to create blades from the very air! You cannot hope to dodge them all!”
Jack watched Eric’s attacks, a desperate idea forming in his mind. Those air blades… if he could replicate that power… He had Sanji’s powerful kicking forms, Usopp’s talent for pinpoint accuracy. What if he could combine them with Eric’s Devil Fruit ability?
He needed to touch Eric.
The opportunity came when Zoro, furious at being targeted, launched a fierce counter-attack, his three swords pressing Eric back for a moment. Eric, snarling, created a larger air blade to defend, the resulting clash with Zoro’s swords kicking up a cloud of sand and momentarily obscuring the view. Jack saw his chance. He sprinted towards the cloud, as if to aid Zoro, shouting, “I’ll help!” As he passed close to Eric, who was momentarily focused on Zoro, Jack “tripped” on an unseen rock, his arm flailing out and brushing against Eric’s leg.
“Get out of the way, you clumsy oaf!” Eric snapped, not realizing the significance of the brief contact.
But Jack had it.
[New Template Acquired: Eric the Whirlwind (Mercenary)]
The icon was Eric surrounded by wind sickles.
[Core Talents: Kama Kama no Mi (Sickle-Sickle Fruit – User of Air Sickles), Mercenary Cunning (Basic), Agility (Above Average)]
[Skills: Kama Kama no Mi Attacks (Proficient – Air Sickles, Whirlwind Shield), Scythe Combat (Novice – if applicable)]
Quickly, mentally, Jack juggled his templates. Sanji in Slot 1 (kicks), Usopp in Slot 2 (aiming). Nami in Slot 3 was the one to go. Her tactical input was subtle; Eric’s direct offensive power was what he needed now.
[Nami (Genius Navigator) Template moved to Storage.]
[Eric the Whirlwind Template equipped to Slot 3.]
A new layer of instinct settled over him: the knowledge of how to manipulate air currents, how to shape them into cutting edges with a gesture, a movement. He felt the Kama Kama no Mi’s power thrumming within him, ready to be unleashed, scaled to his Base Level 35.
A group of five Marines, emboldened by Eric’s presence, were trying to advance on their position. This was his test.
Jack took a deep breath. He channeled the kicking form from Sanji’s template, the instinct for precision from Usopp’s, and now, the wind-slicing power from Eric’s. Instead of a simple kick, he focused his intent, visualized the attack. He leaped into the air, a powerful, arcing kick lashing out – not at a Marine, but at the air before them.
A visible blade of shimmering, compressed air, narrower but longer than Eric’s usual hand-generated ones, shot from his foot with a sharp hiss. It wasn’t quite like Eric’s sickles, nor was it the pure leg-speed-generated Rankyaku of CP9 fame. This was something new, a hybrid, born of a Devil Fruit power channeled through a martial art motion.
[Kama Kama no Mi ability (Air Slash – Kick Variant: ‘Tempest Kick’) activated via Eric Template. Accuracy enhanced by Usopp Template. Power augmented by Sanji Template’s kicking form and User’s Base Level 35.]
The ‘Tempest Kick’ – his own mental designation for the attack – flew true, slicing through the sand at the Marines’ feet, creating a deep furrow and sending them tumbling back in surprise and alarm, their advance broken.
Jack landed, a little unsteady from the unfamiliar exertion, but a fierce grin spread across his face. It had worked! He could create his own ranged slashing attacks!
Zoro, having pushed Eric back a step, glanced over, an eyebrow raised at the unexpected air slash from Jack’s direction. Eric himself paused his assault, looking momentarily stunned, then furious, as he saw the result of Jack’s attack. “What?! How did you—?!”
The battle for Warship Island was far from over. Nelson was still shouting orders, Marines were still advancing, and Eric was now looking at Jack with murderous intent. But Jack felt a surge of confidence. He had a new weapon in his arsenal, a new way to fight alongside his new crew. He launched another kick, sending another ‘Tempest Kick’ whistling through the air. This was getting interesting.
