Chapter 28: The Death of the ‘Stone Wall’ (1)

After the ‘Seven Day Purgatory’, Victor and the boys of the Brooklyn 14th Militia Regiment participated in the Battle of Maryland, and on a bloody day in Antiham, they joined forces with the 6th Volunteer Infantry Regiment of Wisconsin to obtain. It had a better record than any other federal regiment.

But correspondingly, it also paid a heavy price.

According to Major Rufus Doss of the 6th Volunteer Infantry Regiment in Wisconsin:

“The Brooklyn 14th Regiment, the pretty guys called the red-legged devil by the rebels, came to our front to make up for the terrible gap in the position.

These young men from New York State and Wisconsin merged into a common front and worked hard to shoot crazy. Everyone was crying in tears, bowed down, transported ammunition, delivered guns, and shot a bloody path.

I have personally witnessed the legend of the 14th Regiment of Brooklyn: ‘Sabertooth Tiger’ Victor, he is a burly guy with blond hair.

He was invincible on the battlefield. No enemy could survive within three meters of him. Many rebels rushed to our position, but they were repelled by the young men, who led the 14th militia regiment.

Under his leadership, the soldiers rushed into the Southern Army position in Dante Church. They were filled with emotion, madly loaded and fired, and hysterical shouting. The entire battlefield was filled with rebels, who escaped everywhere.”

After the war, the Brooklyn 14th Militia Regiment suffered heavy losses and was given a rare opportunity to recuperate.

After all, Victor can fight on the battlefield again, because he is invincible. His strength is ultimately unlimited. But he can’t kill all the attacking Southern Army alone, and others don’t have the healing factor.

So in the end, although the Brooklyn 14th Militia Regiment won the final victory in Antitham’s ‘One Day Bloody Battle’, it also paid the price of more than half of the casualties.

Therefore, in this Battle of Chancelesville, only a few uninjured soldiers were mobilized, led by Victor to form an elite ‘hunter’, responsible for battlefield reconnaissance and sneak attack on the enemy.

Victor is most proficient in both of these, and are no less than his ability to fight on the front. Therefore, under the leadership of Victor, this team went deep into the enemy’s back without any disadvantages and achieved extremely brilliant results.

One of the biggest gains was a piece of intelligence seized from Frederick. This intelligence is extremely important. It contains the complete battle plan of the Southern Army.

This plan is called: Special Order 919, which was issued by General Lee to all his commanders, including the ‘Stone Wall’ Jackson.

“Copy this plan and let Jerry go and give General Hill a copy.”

‘Stone Wall’ Jackson was too cautious, so he asked his soldiers to make a copy and give the original one to General Hill, who was his.

Then the soldier, Jerry, who was responsible for sending the letter, was captured halfway by the team led by Victor’s aide Tom.

After severe torture and interrogation, Victor obtained Jackson’s location and this important information.

Then hepassed the information to McClellan through Colonel Edward’s hands. McClellan was overjoyed to learn that Lee now has fewer than 20,000 people.

However, he actually took 16 hours to make a decision. Within this critical 16 hours, Lee learned that the plan was lost. He immediately mobilized all the troops to the mountain pass to defend, and the rest of the troops were concentrated in the Antetum.

When McClellan finally made up his mind the next day, he discovered that Yamaguchi had been blocked and after a day of hard fighting,
the North Army finally passed the mountain.

Although McClellan didn’t know where Lee was at all, he still sent a good news to President Lincoln. Lincoln, who received the good news, was half-confident: ‘Just him? Won? You say he is a credible Southern Army spy.’. (To be honest, after McClellan retired, he went to run for the president with Lin Nien. The most famous speech during the period was: I will end the war! Even if the price is to make the South independent!)

At the same time, when Lincoln received a good news from McClellan, Lee, who was planning to retreat through the Potomac River, also received a good news.

The nickname of the general, who sent the good news was ‘Stone Wall’. While McClellan attacked the mountain, ‘Stone Wall’ Jackson led his 20,000 people and more than 11,000 soldiers surrendered.

Victor and others, who tracked the ‘Stone Wall’ Jackson, become surprised, that more than 10,000 EFF soldiers became captives of the enemy without a crossfire.

In addition, the ‘Stone Wall’ Jackson’s troops also seized a large amount of arms and clothing, and the Southern Army soldiers, who followed Jackson from the valley finally put on their new uniforms.

“I think until this ‘stone wall’ Jackson will not dead, and our commander will be McClellan, we can’t win the war.”

Looking at the Southern Army soldiers cheering for victory in the port below, Victor said to Tom expressionlessly.

“…”

Tom was speechless, because from the heart, he agreed with Victor’s words. But his character and professional ethics made him unwilling to ‘defame’ his chief, so he chose to remain silent.

But if he didn’t respond, it did not mean that Victor would just let him go. Victor hold his shoulder and added:

“How is it? Do you want to find a way to shot him, for example, you fired on the mountain to attract their attention, and I pinch the neck of the ‘stone wall’, while they mixed up?”

Eventually Victor’s plan was abandoned with the strong opposition of Tom and others.

What an international joke! He darting rushed in and killed seven in and seven out, maybe there was no fart, and other, the hundred and tenth people, will be prepared, but they would not be enough for the tens of thousands of people.

When Victor said this to McClellan, McClellan did not let him down.

After McClellan, who led 75,000 people, finally caught up with Lee, he started to think again. He felt that Victor might have sent false information. At this time, Lee have around 120,000 people.

So he decided to camp on the spot, waiting for the arrival of other troops, especially artillery and supplies, and then he spent a whole day in the tent to prepare the battle plan afterwards. It’s ridiculous that by the end, everyone had arrived. He did not provide even a battle plan to his men.

At the end of the war, McClellan adopted the most conservative fueling tactics, adding fuel one by one.

The weak southern army was unable to move forward, and the EFF, determined to defend, tried harder. Finally, there was one third of McClellan’s troops unfired. This ridiculous battle was painted by Lee, and he crossed the river and evacuate.

Although the result was indiscriminate, McClellan thought that he had won, so he sent a good news to Lincoln, and Lincoln used this to make a famous abolition declaration.

His move not only won countless international praises for the North, but also completely changed the nature of the war, from the fight for independence in the South to the abolition of decadent slavery in the North.

Then McClellan, who won the ‘victory’ not long ago, showed his ‘snail’ nature again.

It took him three weeks to prepare, and then took another 9 days to bring his 120,000 people across the Potomac River, and at this time Lee was fully replenished and rested.

For the snail-like McClellan, Lincoln finally couldn’t bear it anymore. He immediately cancelled his post and appointed General Burnside, who had won the bridge professionally in the previous battle, as the commander of the EFF.

As a result, although this brother had rectified the army and was an action faction, he submitted his action plan to Lincoln that day: I circled the soldiers and prepared to go directly to the opposite home.

And Lincoln, who has been weakened by McClellan’s procrastination, approved Burnside’s plan in the spirit of doing whatever you can.

I have to say that Burnside and McClellan are really two completely opposite people. Compared with McClellan who has no plan, he has a very ‘good’ plan.

His plan was to cross a large river and then attack the high ground, while the enemy was standing by.

Then he thought that McClellan’s strength was too concentrated, so he demanded that the attacking Northern Army must gather and charge side by side.

Then the cruelty began. The Southern Army was on the Stone Wall, and the people were lined up next to each other in four rows. After shooting one row, they replaced the other, just like a machine gun. The brave former servants of the North Army fell on the battlefield. One day later, more than 6,300 EFF soldiers fell in front of the stone wall.

Burnside, who was standing in the distance, still ordered the attack as planned, until the generals refused to execute the order. When it was dark, the Federal Army had as many as 13,000 casualties, while the Southern Army had only 5300.

In the end, Burnside was lost, and Lincoln began to have a headache for finding a qualified top commander.

In the end, he promoted General Hook, who had seen Victor’s performance in a battle and was impressed.

So after he took over the appointment of the supreme commander, the first thing was to summon Colonel Edward and Victor ‘Sabertooth Tiger’.

Order them: headed by Victor, form a streamlined and powerful team. The squad has only one task: to sneak into the enemy’s rear, and in the upcoming battle, wait for the opportunity to assassinate the ‘Stone Wall’ Jackson or the top commander of the Southern Army: Edward Lee.
